Island Peak Climbing (Imja Tse) – 6189m
A Himalayan Adventure for the Aspiring Mountaineer
Island Peak Climbing is one of Nepal’s most sought-after alpine adventures — a thrilling blend of high-altitude trekking and non-technical mountaineering, perfect for energetic adventurers with a strong fitness foundation and a desire to challenge themselves.
Known locally as Imja Tse, this majestic 6,189-meter peak was named Island Peak by famed mountaineer Eric Shipton in 1951, as it appears like an island rising from a sea of ice — dramatically surrounded by towering glaciers and snow-capped giants above 7,000 and 8,000 meters.
This iconic peak has welcomed countless climbers, including Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, making it a historical and symbolic choice for those seeking to push beyond trekking and into mountaineering. Its strategic location offers one of the most mesmerizing views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Makalu — making the summit not just a personal victory, but a visual feast.
While Island Peak presents a physical challenge, it is not technically difficult, making it an ideal introduction to Himalayan climbing. It also serves as an essential stepping stone for those preparing to conquer peaks above 7,000 meters.
The Journey
Your expedition begins with a thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a trek through some of the most iconic locations in the Everest region — Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche. As we acclimatize and ascend, we reach Chhukung, then proceed to Island Peak Base Camp for final preparations.
Day 10 of our 17-day adventure is reserved exclusively for technical training — practicing essential climbing skills using gear such as ropes, crampons, jumar, and ladders to ensure your confidence and safety. On Day 11, we aim for the summit — where breathtaking panoramas and a deep sense of accomplishment await.
From the heart of the Himalayas, Island Peak Climbing offers more than just a climb — it’s a journey into the wild soul of Nepal, where adventure, nature, and personal transformation meet.
